Medical coding is the transformation of healthcare diagnosis, procedures, medical services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes.
About the Program
This course teaches students how to apply the correct codes that make up health records and claims. This program prepares students for the Certified Professional Coder certification (CPC) given through AAPC. Includes medical terminology, beginning through advanced CPT Procedure Coding, HCPCS, and ICD-10 diagnosis coding.

About the Program
The EKG Technician course has 70+ hours of instruction consisting of online work, lectures and lab. Student must correctly perform 10 EKG’s to successfully complete the class and be eligible to sit for the certification exam.

EKG rhythms provide important data for the diagnosis of heart conditions. Certified EKG Technicians have the credentials to perform the critical tasks of administering EKGs, as well as Holter monitoring and stress testing.”

Certified Medical Administrative Assistants help coordinate patient visits and facilitate the smooth running of the office. During training you’ll acquire skills in:

About the Program
The course teaches basic pharmacology and the proper procedure for preparing, administering, maintaining and documenting medications. Students are also taught to facilitate client self-administration and assist with medication administration. This course meets requirements and is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

Registered Medication Aide. After successful completion of the Medication Aide course, students apply and pay the fee for registration as a Medication Aide to the Virginia Board of Nursing. The Board of Nursing will review the application and provide a letter to practice as a Provisional Medication Aide for 120 days. The Board of Nursing will provide a letter to practice as a Registered Medication Aide after passing the written state certification exam.

Nurse Aides provide care for residents in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, private homes, and hospital settings.
About the Program
The program consists of classroom, skills lab, and 40 hours of clinical training. Includes CPR and First Aid for the Healthcare Provider.

Graduating students are eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam required by the Virginia Board of Nursing. This course meets the Virginia Board of Nursing’s requirement for Nurse Aide Training.

Documentation required by clinical facilities. You must complete all documentation and submit to your instructor within two weeks of class start date, or you may be dismissed from the course WITH NO REFUND. Each student is responsible for costs associated with obtaining documentation.

Patient care technicians assist with the critical day-to-day care of patients. In addition to basic care, skills taught include drawing blood, point of care testing, EKG’s, and wound care.

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, managing inventory, and providing essential support in healthcare settings. They play a crucial role in medication safety for patients.

This course prepares students for the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) exam through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). You will be eligible to apply for a Virginia Board of Pharmacy Pharmacy Technician license once you obtain your PTCB certification.
Admission Requirements
- 18 years old or older
- Have high school diploma or GED at the time of registration
- Pass a basic math and reading assessment
- Attend a Healthcare Orientation
- Have access to a computer with the ability to use it at an adequate level for creation, communication and collaboration (Computers available for use in computer labs at BRCC main campus and Waynesboro outpost)
- Follow the directions in the Pharmacy Technician Application Packet regarding registration document submission and registration for the required healthcare orientation.

Prior to the on-site experience, a student must provide, at his/her own expense, the following:

Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, research and donations.
About the Program
This 8 week course includes both class instruction and hands on training in the BRCC healthcare lab. Content includes studying the circulatory system, learning proper lab processes, safety and techniques for venipunctures and capillary punctures.
