What is Verification?
The United States Department of Education, via the FAFSA’s Central Processing System, selects 1 out of every 3 FAFSA transactions for us to verify one or more items. If you’re selected for verification, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have made a mistake or even that the FAFSA processor believes you have entered information incorrectly. However, once an item is requested, we are legally required to verify it before we are allowed to complete your financial aid package.
To Do List
BRCC uses the SIS To Do List to notify students of any items required for verification. Each time an item is places on your To Do List, an automated e-mail will be sent to let you know something is required. To review your To Do List, log in to MyBRCC, click the “SIS” tile, then click “Student Center”. The To Do List is located on the right side of the page.
You can click on each item on your To Do List to find a description of what is required and how to complete the requirement. Some items will request that you submit a federal tax document such as a signed Federal 1040 tax return, some will be fillable forms within the To Do List, and some will be links to a form you will need to download to complete and print to return.
You can upload most items directly to the To Do List, fax to 540-234-8189, or mail to Blue Ridge Community College, Financial Aid Office, PO Box 80, Weyers Cave, VA 24401. Never e-mail your social security number or banking information – we offer a Secure Upload to avoid this.
