Program Details
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in physicians’ offices, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. Co-requisite CPR is included in the cost of class.
Certification
This course prepares students for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

The requirements included in this class are:
- Fundamentals of Medical Assisting (CCMA): Training to perform basic clinical responsibilities in a medical office including phlebotomy, pharmacology, medication administration, vital signs, EKG, and workplace behavior.
- CPR for the Healthcare Provider: Earn a two-year certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers CPR from the American Heart Association. Instruction includes adult, child, and infant CPR, 2-rescuer CPR, use of AED, and more. This course meets the regulatory requirements of the Virginia Department of Health, JCAHO, Virginia Office of EMS, OSHA, and Virginia Department of Social Services. The course fee includes disposable training supplies. Co-requisite CPR – included in the cost of class.

EKG Technician
EKG rhythms provide important data for the diagnosis of heart conditions. Certified EKG Technicians have the credentials to perform the critical tasks of administering EKGs, as well as Holter monitoring and stress testing.

This course prepares students for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) from the National Healthcareers Association (NHA).
About the Program
The EKG program runs for 8 weeks, with 70 hours of instruction consisting of online work, online lectures, and in-person lab.

Patient Service Representative
Patient Service Representatives provide clerical support to medical offices and may work as receptionists, schedulers, etc. This course instructs students in reception and clerical skills, scheduling, customer service, OSHA and HIPAA regulations, and more. Learn medical terminology and medical office business skills.
Certification
Graduates are prepared to take the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) examination given by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
About the Program
A Patient Service Representative (also known as Certified Medical Administrative Assistant) is usually the first point of contact for patients or clients. Patient Service Representatives also help coordinate patient visits and facilitate the smooth running of the office.

- Medical Office Reception –In this section, you will learn reception and clerical skills, scheduling, customer service, electronic health record navigation, OSHA and HIPPA regulations, and much more.
- Medical Office Operations with Medical Terminology – Understanding medical business skills and the language of medicine are important requirements of a Medical Administrative Assistant. A part of this section of the class is dedicated to medical terminology. The second section teaches skills in financial management, basic procedure and diagnostic coding, and law and ethics.

Medication Aide
Medication Aides are trained to prepare for safe administration of medications to clients in assisted living facilities.
Certification
After successful completion of the Medication Aide course, students apply and pay the fee for registration as a Medication Aide to the Virginia Board of Nursing. The Board of Nursing will review the application and provide a letter to practice as a Provisional Medication Aide for 120 days. The Board of Nursing will provide a letter to practice as a Registered Medication Aide after the student passes the written state certification exam.
About the Program
The course teaches basic pharmacology and the proper procedure for preparing, administering, maintaining, and documenting medications. Students are also taught to facilitate client self-administration and assist with medication administration. This course meets requirements of and is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

- Students are required to pay any expense associated with completing the TB risk form.
- $50 application fee to the Virginia Board of Nursing. The Board requires that successful course completers apply for a provisional license prior to taking the certification exam.
Certified Nurse Aide
Nurse Aides provide high quality, compassionate care for hospital patients and residents in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and private homes.
Certification
Graduating students are eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam required by the Virginia Board of Nursing. This course meets the Virginia Board of Nursing’s requirement for Nurse Aide Training in Virginia.
About the Program
A certified nursing aide is one of the most important roles in the healthcare team. The CNA program consists of classroom, skills lab, and 40 hours of clinical training.
The requirements included in this class are:
- Nurse Aide: Learn skills needed to work as a Nurse Aide in nursing homes, private homes, hospitals, and assisted living facilities.
- CPR and First Aid for the Healthcare Provider: Earn a two-year certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers CPR from the American Heart Association and a First Aid certification from the Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI). Instruction includes adult, child, and infant CPR; 2-rescuer CPR; use of AED; and first aid. The course fee includes disposable training supplies, a First Aid guidebook, and two certification cards. Patient Care Technician Bridge
Patient care technicians assist with the critical day-to-day care of patients. In addition to basic care, skills taught include drawing blood, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and wound care.
Prerequisite
Nurse Aide training
Those with previous Nurse Aide training will need to start online work 1 week before the first in-person class.

Pharmacy Technician
Pharmacy Technicians receive training to work in pharmacies assisting the pharmacy and the pharmacist with both administrative and pharmacy work. Certification
Course includes preparation for the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Exam through National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). This exam is administered at an off-site testing facility. Once national certification is obtained, you can apply for a Virginia Board of Pharmacy state license.
About the Program
The Pharmacy Technician program is a dynamic and engaging educational experience designed to prepare aspiring pharmacy technicians with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on training necessary for success as a pharmacy technician. This program combines rigorous coursework with practical, real-world application to prepare students for a rewarding career in pharmacy. Expect to spend 10-20 hours on coursework per week. Math is an integral part of this profession, and there will be a heavy focus on math in the program. The program teaches skills for working as a pharmacy technician alongside registered pharmacists and prepares students for the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Exam through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). NOTE: A working knowledge of algebra is essential.

- Must be able to attend all simulation lab classes in person.
- Must be able to fulfill experiential learning hours (externship). This will be the last 7 weeks of the program and will be 24 hours/week at a designated pharmacy. This is mandatory to pass the program.
- Required out-of-pocket expenses include background check, drug screen, immunizations (for the experiential sites), Virginia Board of Pharmacy Technician Trainee License, and non-permeable, close-toed shoes – an estimated $200.
- Illicit drug use, criminal background checks, and your immunization status may prevent you from being employed as a pharmacy technician. Experiential sites, employers, and state boards of pharmacy have regulations about drug use, criminal backgrounds, and immunization status.

Phlebotomy Technician
Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, research, and donations.
Certification
Graduates qualify for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam given by the National Healthcareers Association (NHA). CPR for the Healthcare Provider is required to receive Phlebotomy Technician Certification. The cost of CPR is included in the price of tuition.
About the Program
The art of drawing blood is called phlebotomy and is a very delicate and intricate skill in the medical world. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion and sit for the National Healthcareers Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam at BRCC.
