Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IR&E)
We collaborate with faculty and administrators to develop assessments, collect and analyze data, and review programs. Our office is responsible for reporting requirements at the federal (IPEDS) and state (SCHEV and VCCS) levels.
Campus-wide Assessment
IR&E assists with annual assessments for general education, academic programs, and administrative departments to improve student learning and services. We also administer the General Education graduation assessments of core competencies to all associate’s degree graduation candidates.

We gather and analyze data, administer surveys, coordinate research studies, support strategic planning, and provide data on a regular basis. We are happy to assist with data collection and analysis or survey research upon request.

Assessment Support
IR&E supports academic program and administrative department reviews (once every four years) and prepares an end of cycle report reviewing progress towards accomplishing stated outcomes and objectives at the end of each academic year.
Student Achievement
BRCC assesses student achievement in six areas. We review the results every year and discuss them to create action plans if we do not meet our goals.
We set targets and thresholds using baseline and trend data, along with our professional judgment about what shows effectiveness and success. The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (OIRE) adjusts the indicators, measures, and targets as needed to enhance student achievement.
