Give Your Teen a Head Start This Summer at BRCC

Are you looking for summer options that combine fun with creativity or career-ready skills? BRCC’s summer youth programs offer students the chance to explore high-demand fields and creative passions – explore drones, ceramics, and working with animals as a veterinary technician!

Ceramics: Pottery Freestyle

Ages 12-18

Three sessions:

June 1-29, Mondays, 4-7pm

July 6-10, Monday-Friday, 9am-12pm

July 13- Aug. 10, Mondays, 4-7pm

This class serves as an exploration of ceramics, where students will learn many different techniques – then have the freedom to decide what they wish to create with clay. Focused techniques include coil building, working with slabs, and a wide variety of surface decoration options.  All experience levels are welcome.

Drone Zone Camp

Ages 10-16

Keep the drone at the end of camp!

Ages 14-16; July 6-9, 1-4pm

This camp introduces students to the cutting-edge world of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), or drones. From basic physics to advanced aerial maneuvers, students will transition from rookie observers to skilled drone pilots. Students will tackle drone obstacle courses, incorporating the responsibility of FAA-compliant flight, ensuring every student leaves with a foundation in both aviation technology and safety. Attendees will receive information about and instructions on taking the FAA Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST). The camp concludes with a tour of BRCC’s Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) facility at the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport.  Bonus: Students get to keep their drone at the end of camp!

Pre-Veterinary Technology 

Ages 14-18

Interested in veterinary medicine? Explore the veterinary world and learn the roles of the veterinarian, veterinary technician, and veterinary assistant. Learn the basics of animal handling, operation of a veterinary hospital, and common medical problems of animals.
