Our advanced manufacturing program can prepare you for a career as a control, instrumentation, process automation, electromechanical, or industrial technician or as a manufacturing technologist.  You can also specialize in bio-technology, engineering, operational excellence or mechatronics technologies.

This video is 100% funded by federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) awards AA-32183-18-55-A-51 and AA-30941-17-55-A-51 from the US Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration to the Virginia Community College System. Blue Ridge Community College was the recipient of $303, 583 as part of this initiative.

This degree is designed to develop multi-skilled technicians and operators with talents in the complete manufacturing process and emerging technologies of advanced process automation, digital design/manufacturing and continual process improvement, as well as the capability for higher level problem-solving, innovation, and leadership. Graduates will have the capacity and adaptability to perform on a team of researchers, engineers, technicians and trades craftsmen in the advanced manufacturing environment, developing new technology applications and improved operations.

This specialization combines operational/mechanical technology with advanced troubleshooting and process improvement skills.  The curriculum includes basic mechanical and electrical, trouble shooting, materials, process and productivity improvement and prepares the student for manufacturing positions such as an engineering technician, reliability technician, maintenance planner or process control technician. Terminal or potential transferrable degree.

The Mechatronics specialization is a blend of mechanical systems, instrumentation, electronics, robotics, automation, computers, and control systems integrated to address needs of highly automated manufacturing processes. Mechatronics Technicians use systems approach analysis and troubleshooting skills to install, maintain, and repair advanced automated equipment found in manufacturing operations.  Jobs as Technicians include: Engineering, Mechanical Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Instruments and Controls, Operations, Field Service, Production Line.  BRCC’s mechatronics courses are included in certain Virginia Registered Apprenticeship programs.
