The Criminal Justice program will prepare you for entry level employment and/or further education in criminal justice fields.

Program Options

The program’s curriculum introduces students to the criminal justice system and includes law enforcement, corrections, and the courts. Certificate programs are shorter term programs that can be applied to the A.A.S. degree/broaden your employment opportunities. Choose the program that matches your career goals.

BRCC-Law Enforcement Academy Agreement

BRCC’s Criminal Justice program has an agreement with the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy (CSCJTA) in Weyers Cave, VA, offering a unique pathway during a student’s final semester.

Eligible students may complete their last semester at CSCJTA instead of on-campus coursework, earning academy certification while finishing their Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice.

If you want to continue your studies, BRCC has transfer agreements with Old Dominion University.

Possible occupations for graduates (depending upon the level of education and training): police officer, state trooper, deputy sheriff, jailer, correctional officer, loss prevention officer, dispatcher, police records technician, deputy clerk (court), security officer.

The A.A.S. degree program with a major in Criminal Justice is designed to be a highly flexible and customizable program for people who seek full-time employment in the criminal justice system as well as for in-service officers.  Some courses in this degree may be applied to baccalaureate degrees at four-year institutions.
