This course prepares students for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification through National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

  • Workplace behavior and more.

This is also the beginning clinical class in the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification program.

Optional 160 Hour Externship

Sign up is the first few weeks of class. An externship coordinator will work with you toward the end of class to find an externship placement. There is no additional cost for the externship. NOTE: If you are continuing in the RMA program, the externship is required.

Required Classes

Fundamentals of Medical Assisting

This is the first clinical class in the CCMA and RMA program (Registered Medical Assistant) that trains students to perform basic clinical responsibilities in a medical office. Topics include phlebotomy, pharmacology, medication administration, vital signs, EKG, workplace behavior and more.  Bonus – 3 weeks of ophthalmology (eye) training.

CPR for the Healthcare Provider

Earn a two-year certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers CPR from the American Heart Association. Instruction includes adult, child and infant CPR, 2-rescuer CPR, use of AED and more. This course meets the regulatory requirements of the Virginia Department of Health, JCAHO, Virginia Office of EMS, OSHA, and Virginia Department of Social Services. Course fee includes disposable training supplies.

Admission Requirements

  • 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proven competency in computer office applications or successful completion of a basic computer course.
  • Proof of attendance at BRCC Healthcare Orientation Session
