Program Admission Requirements

You must apply for general admission to BRCC before applying to the program.  Applicants are screened and awarded points for:  academic credentials, veterinary/animal experience, awareness of the profession, quality of recommendation and aptitude test scores.     

All Applicants

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of high school or college biology, including lab, with a “C” or better
  • Demonstrated math proficiency in MTE 1-5 prior to application (see Placement Testing)
  • Official transcripts from high school and non-VCCS colleges attended
  • Completed Program Application for Admission
  • Completed Observation Form by a licensed veterinary technician in a veterinary hospital for a minimum of 35 hours within the last calendar year
  • Completed Reference form from a veterinarian or veterinary technician
  • Upon request, completion of Veterinary Technology Admissions Test and interview with program staff.

Additional Requirements

Campus Program Applicants

Completion of ENG 111 and CHM 110 curriculum requirements prior to application (may be currently enrolled in these courses at time of application with admission contingent upon successful completion)

Distance Learning Applicants

Completion of the SDV, ENG111, CHM 110 and 3 other credits of curriculum requirements at the time of application (10 of the 16 credits).  (May be currently enrolled in these courses at time of application with admission contingent upon successful completion)

How to Apply

Submit a single admissions packet (application materials sent separately will not be accepted) containing:

  • Completed Veterinary Technology Admissions Checklist
  • Completed Clinical Observation Report
  • Completed Reference Form (in a signed and sealed envelope).
  • Completed Application for Admission to the Veterinary Technology Program.
  • Sealed official transcripts from high school and colleges attended.  (You may have high school transcripts sent separately if the high school will not release transcripts directly to you.)

Admissions packages may be mailed or delivered to the BRCC Weyers Cave campus c/o Catherine Rosenberg.
