Connect to Succeed

Academic Success Through Intensive Engagement

Connect to Succeed provides personalized support, coaching, and collaborative learning to help students succeed.

How it Works

If you are taking one of these traditional 15-week courses, you are automatically added to a corresponding, dedicated, Supplemental Instruction (SI) course in Canvas:

  • BIO 101 – General Biology
  • BIO 141 – Anatomy & Physiology
  • CHM 111 – General Chemistry I
  • MTH 154 – Quantitative Reasoning
  • MTH 161 – Precalculus

You not need to sign up or register to attend any SI sessions – simply go to your Canvas dashboard and find the SI course. There, you will find the schedule, locations of the sessions, instructors and SI leaders, and information about incentives.

The Engagement Coach, Ezekiel Schmidt, routinely communicates with students who may be struggling in these courses.

Any student is welcome to contact Ezekiel by email at schmidte@brcc.edu or stop by The Connection Suite (J102) to connect with him in person.

Engagement Coaches (EC)

Your personal success coach! EC’s are embedded in all connect to succeed courses and provide support to students who need success skills or help connecting with campus resources.

Engagement Coaches can help with:

  • Time management
  • Study strategies
  • Test anxiety
  • Motivation
  • Goal setting
  • Connecting you with campus resources
  • Attending tutoring or supplemental instruction

Your EC will connect with you by doing quick visits before the start of class and various messages on Canvas and EABNavigate throughout the semester. Reach out to them if you would like to schedule an appointment or simply stop by “The Connection Suite” in J102.

Engagement Coaches focus on student success skills rather than course content.

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

Weekly review sessions led by faculty instructions and SI Leaders (embedded tutors) are offered in-person and online to fit your schedule.

Attend SI to:

  • Review course material weekly alongside peers
  • Ask instructors and SI leaders questions
  • Study in a small group setting
  • Prepare for tests and exams
  • Stay caught up throughout the semester

Be sure to ask about attendance incentives!
