Great Expectations Program for Foster Youth
To help Virginia’s foster youth complete high school, gain access to a community college education, and transition successfully to living independently.
Building the Bond
Students in this program receive support and guidance from BRCC’s Great Expectations Coordinator to help them navigate the community college experience.
Who Is Eligible?
Great Expectations serves foster youth and foster care alumni who are currently between the ages of 16 and 24 who:
- are currently in the custody of the local Department of Social Services
- were under the care and custody of the Department of Social Services at or after the age of 13 and then left care due to reunification, adoption, informal kinship care, or aging out of the system
- were adopted under a “Special Needs” designation from foster care at any age
At this time, youth who have been placed through DSS Child Protective Services in an informal kinship placement or legal guardianship that was not designated as a foster care provider are not eligible for these services.
The Great Expectations Coordinator helps eligible students connect with resources and support that may be available to them. If you have any questions about the Great Expectations program or would like to get connected, please contact the Great Expectations Coordinator, Wendy Smith at email@example.com or (540) 453-2325.
