About Student Outreach and Resource Center (SOAR)

The SOAR Center is primarily funded by donations from community members, BRCC alumni, faculty, and staff who give generously to “pay it forward.” Providing financial assistance is only one small part of what we do. Additional resources include an on-campus SOAR library (located in the Plecker Workforce Center), referral services, workshops throughout the year, and friendly staff to assist you in reaching your goals.

How You Can Help

Please consider making a donation to BRCC’s Educational Foundation, earmarking contributions for BRCC Student Outreach & Resource Center.

SOAR Statement of Philosophy

The Student Outreach and Resource Center (SOAR) at Blue Ridge Community College shall be open to all currently enrolled BRCC students – regardless of age, race, social class or economic status – affirming them as persons of worth and encouraging them to explore life transitions as vehicles for positive change.

The service region for the Student Outreach and Resource Center (SOAR) shall be identical to that of Blue Ridge Community College: the counties of Augusta, Highland and Rockingham; and the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro.

The Student Outreach and Resource Center (SOAR) shall encompass a comprehensive approach, addressing the educational, psychological, spiritual and physical aspects related to meeting the challenges students face in their varied responsibilities at particular stages in life.

The Student Outreach and Resource Center (SOAR) shall be dedicated to the principle that education is the primary means for students to empower themselves and increase their self-esteem. The Center, therefore, shall assist students in obtaining appropriate counseling, education, and/or training to identify and meet their individual career and personal goals.

Recognizing the value of cooperation on both the personal and organizational levels, the Student Outreach and Resource Center (SOAR) shall provide an atmosphere to foster networking among individuals, and a referral service to link students with specific needs and interests to appropriate community agencies and organizations.
