Our College/University Transfer programs let you take your first two years of classes here, earn an associates degree, and transfer to a four year school to work on a bachelor’s degree. Virginia state schools usually prefer transfers with the A.A.&S. degree instead of transferring course credits (Virginia State Policy on College Transfer - PDF requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).

Transfer Advisors

You will need to work with both a BRCC transfer advisor and a transfer advisors from your transfer school to select classes.

Transfer Guides

Advising guides help you pick courses that will fulfill the degree requirements of BRCC and transfer to your four year school.  Some of these guides are major specific so it's best to pick your major and four-year school as soon as possible.

Transfer Agreements

There are different types of agreements with four year schools:

  • VCCS articulation agreements - tells you how community college classes will transfer
  • BRCC articulation agreements - tells you how your BRCC courses will transfer
  • Guaranteed Admissions Agreements (GAAs)  - guarantees general admission if you meet all the requirements.

JMU On-Site Admission Day

JMU transfer admission counselors will be on campus to meet with students who wish to apply to JMU for the Fall 2023 semester.

  • When: Wednesday, January 25th
  • Where: The Transfer Center at BRCC, E112
  • What to Bring: You MUST bring copies of your official high school transcript, as well as official college transcripts other than BRCC. We will secure your official BRCC transcript for you. Transcripts must be in a signed, sealed envelope.
  • What to Expect: An admissions counselor will review all of your transcripts and give you feedback, and possibly an admission decision. This is not an interview, but it’s an excellent chance for you to meet face-to-face with the people who make the transfer admissions decisions.

If you are NOT applying under the guaranteed admission agreement, you can sign up for an on-site appointment.
If you are unsure if you qualify for the GAA, send me your student ID# and we will check for you. Review GAA requirements.
