Each year, typically, the FAFSA application opens up on October 1^st for the fall semester of the following year. Due to the implementation of a new and improved 24-25 FAFSA, the application will be delayed until December 2023. You can apply for aid on or after that day by completing the FAFSA electronically.

BRCC does not require any supplemental applications for federal or state grant funding, however, there is a separate application process for each of the following:

• Scholarships
• Federal Student Loans
• Federal Work-Study

Deadlines

The priority filing deadline for the FAFSA is May 15th due to the 2024-2025 complications. While we encourage students to meet the May 15^th priority deadline, you may still apply after that date and throughout the academic year. Some federal and state grant funding is awarded on a first come, first served basis. The earlier you apply, the more likely you are to be considered for those funds. We generally begin processing students’ FAFSAs in February or March. Applications completed after the May 15^th priority date, are usually received in 3-5 business days.

What to expect when we start processing FAFSAs each year:

• You will receive a message in the SIS Message Center with general information.
• If additional items are required, a request will be placed on your To Do List in SIS.
• Once verification of requested items is completed, you will receive a message indicating either that you have been awarded grants or that you are not eligible for grants, with information on how to apply for loans or work-study if you wish to do so.

 What to do if items are requested:

The U.S. Department of Education’s FAFSA processor selects no less than one third of all students who file the FAFSA to provide additional information related to tax filing, household members, or other items. Whenever an item is required, a request will be placed on the To Do List in SIS. Each item’s link provides a description of what is needed and how to submit it. Most items are processed in no more than 7-10 business days.
