Graduates qualify for the Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) exam given by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

About the Program

The program consists of 8 weeks of classroom instruction and an optional clinical externship (40 hours).

Required Healthcare Orientation - Free

Call 540/453-2215 to register. Orientation must be completed prior to the first day of class.

Admission Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 18 years old
  • Access to computer and Internet
  • Proof of attendance at BRCC Healthcare Orientation Session

Required Documentation for Optional Externship

Documentation is required by the clinical facilities; must be completed prior to placement in externship site. Each student is responsible for - and paying any costs associated with - obtaining documentation:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Students must present a current professional rescuer card offered by American Heart Association or the American Red Cross (both good for 2 years)
  • Clear drug screen
  • Clear criminal background check
  • Current physical exam with TB test and current immunizations, including flu shot (and other tests as required by the externship site).  Must use physical exam form provided by BRCC.
  • Professional liability insurance
  • Current résumé
  • Proof of computer proficiency
