Ophthalmic Assistant

Ophthalmic Assistants help ophthalmologists by performing ophthalmic clinical functions. They may administer eye exams, administer eye medications, and instruct patients in care and use of corrective lenses.

Prerequisite for Certification

Successful completion of the course serves as a prerequisite for the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) examination administered by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).

About the Program

This program teaches students to perform assigned duties and ophthalmic procedures as assistants to the ophthalmologist.
