Prepare for jobs such as production technician, machine operator, quality control inspector, power plant operator, process control operator, and more. 


Earn a Manufacturing Specialist (MS) and Manufacturing Technician (MT1) certification from the Manufacturer’s Skills Institute, part of the Virginia Manufacturers Association, by taking the MS and MT1 courses and passing the certification tests. You will learn: employee behavior and team relations, mathematics, mechanics and spatial reasoning, heat and energy transfer, electricity, fluid power, chemistry, business acumen, process quality.  Completing the courses and earning certifications show manufacturers you have the basic skills necessary to succeed in the industry. Certifications can count for 7 credits toward BRCC’s Associate’s degree in Mechatronics.  

Merck/Advanced Manufacturing Partnership

The college is partnering with Merck and James Madison University to ensure its courses prepare the workforce for in-demand manufacturing jobs. Merck has hired at least 120 interns, contractors and full-time employees from BRCC and JMU as a result of the partnership.

Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing for High School Students

Blue Ridge Community College is partnering with the University of Virginia to offer high schoolers the opportunity to explore careers in Advanced Manufacturing, while also earning as many as 10 college credits. Through funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), courses are being offered free of charge.
