2019 Commencement Info for Graduates

2019 Commencement Ceremony 

Saturday, May 4, 2019 at BRCC Campus.

Before the Ceremony:

  • Arrive at BRCC no later than 9:15 am, Saturday, May 4th. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 am with or without you.
  • You will check-in at the Check-In Desk located in “F” Building. “D”, “E”, and “F” Buildings are for graduates ONLY. Please do not allow your guests to come with you to the robing areas.
  • Students will line up with their major in designated classrooms in “D”, “E”, and “F” Buildings. The person at the check-in desk in “F” will tell you in which classroom you belong.
  • Please do not bring personal belongings with you to the robing areas. The classrooms will not be locked during the ceremony, and BRCC will not be responsible for any lost/stolen items.
  • Every student will have at least one identification card which will be read by the Vice President as you walk across the stage. YOU MUST KEEP UP WITH YOUR CARD(S)!! No card, means no name or degree will be read. Card(s) will be handed to you in your robing room.
  • For students receiving multiple awards, you will march with your highest award only. Your secondary award(s) will be read along with your name as you walk across the stage.
  • Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Cum Laude Honors are based on your cumulative GPA at the end of FALL 2018. Honors will be on your card if you’ve earned them. Only students with a Fall 2018 Cumulative (overall) GPA of 3.2 or higher are eligible for honors. Career Studies Certificates are not eligible for honors.
  • You should have already picked up your cap and gown. Please do not lose them! No one marches without a cap and gown!
  • If you need accommodations for the ceremony, please contact Patricia Boyd, Disability Services Coordinator, no later than 3:00pm Friday, May 3rd.

During the Ceremony:

  • No Coolers! Guests may bring water bottles.
  • No Pets! Unless they are a service animal.
  • Attire – Please dress professional yet comfortable under your robe. It is very likely that the ground will be wet. Please take that into consideration when choosing footwear.
  • Enjoy your day!!

After the Ceremony:

  • Professional photographs will be taken of each graduate during the ceremony by King Photo and available for purchase. Pictures will also be available through a link on the BRCC Commencement Page after the ceremony.
  • If you need to send an official transcript to a college/university, employer, etc., please request your transcripts now through SIS or Parchment.com and request that they be sent “Hold for Degree Conferral”. That is the fastest way to send the transcript as soon as your degree is conferred. All degrees will be conferred to permanent records no later than June 9, 2019.
  • After all degrees have been conferred, Paradigm will mail your diploma to the address that was entered on your graduation application. If you need to change your address, please email your new address to Graduation@brcc.edu prior to June 9, 2019.
  • Please Note that participation in the Commencement Ceremony is not a confirmation of graduation.

Caps and Gowns

You may pick up your cap and gown at no charge at the BRCC Bookstore beginning Monday, April 8, 2019 during regular business hours.


May be purchased at the BRCC Bookstore.


RSVP to the ceremony by picking up your cap and gown from the BRCC Bookstore no later than May 1, 2019. You do not need to notify BRCC if you do not wish to participate.

Rain Location

If the ceremony is postponed due to inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at BRCC on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.  Graduates should arrive no later than 5:15 p.m. If there is inclement weather Monday evening as well, the ceremony will be moved to James Madison University (JMU) Convocation Center, Harrisonburg, VA, at 6:00 pm.

An announcement will be made no later than 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019 on local radio, on the College’s main greeting at 540-234-9261, and BRCC website if the ceremony is moved to Monday evening.

Guest Information


There are no tickets. The ceremony is open admission and seating is first come, first serve. There will be a designated area for handicap seating. Please check with an usher upon arrival.

Restricted Access

Family and friends are not to enter D, E, or F buildings before the ceremony. Restrooms will be available to guests in multiple other locations on campus.
