e Ridge Community College Named a “2017 Great College to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education
Blue Ridge Community College is a great college to work for, according to a new survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a top trade publication for colleges and universities.
The results, released earlier this week in The Chronicle’s tenth annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of 232 colleges and universities.
Only 79 of the institutions that applied for the program achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition, and BRCC was one of only 22 two-year colleges to make the list. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with BRCC included among the medium universities with 3,000 to 9,999 students.
BRCC won honors in five categories this year: Collaborative Governance; Professional/Career Development Programs; Supervisor/Department Chair Relationship; Teaching Environment (faculty only); and Work/Life Balance.
“Blue Ridge Community College is a wonderful place to work because the people care about what they do and why they do it. The college serves a compelling need in our community, and employees do all they can to help our students achieve great success. As a result, we have an atmosphere of caring that pervades the institution and enriches the relationships we have as colleagues and friends. Despite the challenges we sometimes face, people want to work here because we know that together, we can overcome any obstacle to support one other and our students as we strive to serve the educational needs of our community,” said BRCC President Dr. John Downey.
