EDU 114: Driver Task Analysis (3 CR)

Introduces the “driver task” as related to the highway transportation system and factors that influence performance ability. Prepares students so they may be eligible to take certification exams for driving school instructors in both public and private schools. Prerequisite: Must be eligible for ENG 03 and 05 or ESL 13.  56489;  May 7-31, 5-9 pm;  3 credits. (Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours.  Total of 4 hours per week. This is a hybrid class so may not meet on all dates. Meeting dates will be determined the first night of class.  Instructor: Amy Wheeler.  Class meets at Harrisonburg High School.

EDU 214: Instructional Principles of Driver Education (3 CR)

Analyzes rules and regulations that govern the conduct of Driver Education programs with special emphasis on organization and administration. Includes applications for the classroom, driving range and on the street.  Prepares students so they may be eligible to take the state certification exam in driver education.  Prerequisite: EDU 114

Electrocardiography Technician Training Program NEW

Blue Ridge Community College in partnership with Boston Reed College is pleased to offer the new Electrocardiography (EKG) Technician Training Program. This 70 hour program provides instruction in EKG unit operation and troubleshooting, lead placement utilizing 12 lead EKG, use and understanding of EKG grid paper, recognizing normal and abnormal EKG patterns in all 12 leads and plotting EKG axis. Course fee includes textbooks, program materials and certificate of completion. Energy Auditor Program, Part 1 (Classroom):  Building Science for Energy Auditors

Learn how to perform full-scale residential energy audits. You will also need to complete the Field Training and Field Exam (Energy Auditor Program, Part 2) to prepare for full industry certification from BPI. Part I addresses: energy movement, measurement selection, comfort and climate, indoor air quality, calculating envelope energy loss, typical retrofit strategies, cooling measures, base load measures, building assessment, combustion safety, work orders and deferral of services, and more. Clinical Medical Assistant Training Program*

Kinesio-Massage Therapy Certificate Program* NEW

Kinesio-Massage is much more than another modality or application technique for pain; it is an applied science. Led by Glenn Hakey (The Body Mechanic) this series focuses on understanding pain and its effects on various body types, and using orthopedic massage and various Proprioreceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) techniques as a targeted means of “tailored rehabilitation". The program consists of three modules (see below). Students will receive a BRCC Certificate of Completion; courses count towards National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) certification. Personal Fitness Trainers, Physical Therapists, Rehabilitation Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Athletic Coaches, Medical Massage Specialists, and Certified Massage Therapists can all benefit from this program.

Personal Training Certification

Become a Certified Personal Trainer – the 4th hottest job in the US, according to ABC NEWS.com, with a national average pay rate of $25 an hour. The five-week course includes 15 hours of “hands on” practical training to prepare you to work with clients one-on-one. Lecture topics include: anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, and health screening. On the sixth week, you will take the National Exam. Phlebotomy*

Become a Phlebotomy Technician in a clinical laboratory or public health department setting. Phlebotomy Technicians collect quality samples from patients to produce accurate laboratory results. They must create an atmosphere of trust and confidence while drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe, and reliable manner. This 148-hour program, offered in partnership with Boston Reed College, is intended for those with no experience. Instruction: 48 hours. Clinical Externship: 100 hours.
