Who may attend non-credit classes?

Some of our classes (such as Commercial Driving or Learning Can Be Fun) have requirements or limitations but, for the great majority, there are no admission requirements.

When are classes held?

Non-credit classes begin and end year-round.  They are not tied to a semester schedule.  They are included in the regular semester schedule that the College prints and mails to every household.  Click here for a listing of classes beginning soon.

Where are classes held?

Non-credit classes are held in a variety of venues including on-site at local businesses and some are tours; this will be indicated in the schedule of classes.  Most meet at one of the College's three sites (for directions, click on the Center name):

The Plecker Workforce Center at the  Weyers Cave campus;

The Harrisonburg Center; or

The BRCC Center at Augusta Medical Center.

Who teaches the courses?

Workforce Services and Continuing Education courses feature quality instruction by BRCC faculty and local experts in the subject area of the specific course.

How do I register for a class?

You have a variety of telephone, internet, in-person and mail-in options.  Click here to see them.

What if I want to teach a class?

When's the next schedule going to be available?

There is always schedule information available on-line.

Do you offer VRS Pre-Retirement Seminars?

Yes, we do.  We work with VRS in offering the seminars on a regular basis.  Click here for dates of the next session and registration information.

What's the Women's Resource Center?

The Women's Resource Center is open to all women. Center programs support the special roles of women in society, from co-workers, managers and volunteers in the workplace, to single parents, spouses, mothers, and daughters in the family setting. And, while the Center focuses on the needs of women, men are welcome to attend programs of mutual interest.

What's the CRC?

The Career Readiness Certificate is an assessment-based credential that gives employers and career seekers a uniform measure of key workplace skills.

How do I arrange a class just for my employees?

How early can I register for motorcycle classes?

To register for motorcycle classes, call ext. 2284.  The up-to-date voice mail message will tell you which classes still have openings.  If you want to register, leave a message--they are time-stamped and registrations are processed in order of receipt.

What resources are available for my small business?

WSCE has a variety of open-enrollment classes that address a number of management, supervision, communication, interpersonal areas of interest to the small business owner.  Click here for a current listing.

What if I cannot attend one of the regularly-scheduled sessions for the Commercial Driving School?

Beginning Fall 2005, CDS has a credit-class option which is very popular.  However, we realize that not everyone can attend class during the day.  So--

WSCE offers flexible, individual scheduling for students unable to attend the four-week class.  Contact Mike Eller at ext. 2218 or email him to discuss a schedule convenient for you.

What IS Learning Can Be Fun?

Learning Can Be Fun (LCBF) is a program for youth, grades kindergarten through high school.  Click here for more information.

What is the Career Switcher program?

The VCCS Career Switcher Program provides accessible, effective teacher preparation to meet the needs of the Commonwealth of Virginia for skilled, talented, diverse, and highly qualified teachers.  Virginia’s community colleges have become the latest providers in a statewide "career switcher" initiative.  The natural network of the 23 community colleges located throughout the state, combined with the VCCS distance learning capabilities, offer ideal access to this opportunity.   Click here for more information.
