Create a tile in glass mosaics for use as a decorative trivet,
wall design, address signs, or whatever creative venue you can
imagine! In these two-day workshops, Lisa Morrison will
demonstrate how you can create your own design for mosaics,
discover cutting/breaking glass techniques, and learn grout and
finishing skills to complete your mosaic art works. Come
experience a new art technique – makes great gifts for friends
and family members. Plan to purchase a 6x6 or 12x12 tile
(unglazed like a terra cotta tile) and bring $10 to first class

Pottery Creations: Beginning & Intermediate Students
It’s time to generate a new path on your creative journey.
Here’s your chance to jump into the exciting world of pottery,

leading ceramicist in the Shenandoah Valley, Phill Ungar.

Pottery Creations for Intermediate & Advanced Students
Clay: an extension of ourselves. If you’ve taken previous
pottery classes, come join our group for a look at expanding on
your existing talents! Phill Ungar, a leading ceramicist
in the Staunton and Harrisonburg area will lead each class,
resulting in rewarding creations and pottery gifts for you and
others. Learn how to build on your knowledge, while generating
advanced results and exploring new surface decoration
techniques; see how to make larger pieces, and create a union of
pots with lids. Kiln operation and loading will be discussed;
videos available prior to class. Basic pottery experience is
required for this course. Not yet experienced? Check out the
beginning pottery courses offered this semester. Course fee

television, or listened to an actor reading an audio book and
thought, “I’d like to do that”? Well, now is your chance! In
this single evening class, taught through Voice Coaches, LLC,
you will get a realistic and entertaining look at the positive
and negative components of building success as a voice actor in
your area. The instructor will discuss both the creative and
business aspects of this rapidly growing and lucrative field.
You will hear voice acting demos and then actually have the
opportunity to record a real script under the direction of a
producer right there in class! Your recording will then be
played back at the end of the session as a class finale.
Throughout the class you are encouraged to ask questions and the
instructor is always willing to provide a basic voice assessment

There’s a lot riding on your SAT scores. Instructors Judy
Hevener & Sam Alexander at the Augusta Center OR Michelle
Crotteau & Tricia Cummings at the Harrisonburg Center will
prepare you to deal successfully with exam topics ranging from
writing to critical reading and math. You will learn about
short passages, long passages, and paired passages that test
reading comprehension, higher level math questions (geometric
notation, basic trigonometry, and new statistics concepts), and
the required essay. Bring pencils and a scientific/graphing
calculator. The Official SAT Study Guide is included in the

Managing Local Natural Hazards
For anyone who wants to increase safety outdoors, this class
will help you identify our area’s actual risks. Instructor
Kate Guenther will teach you how to avoid/manage the handful
of hazards that could be present—from your backyard to the
wilderness. You’ll learn to recognize when conditions are right
for a hazard to be present and how to avoid and/or respond to
emerging situations. The course includes an overview of a
variety of our area’s main hazards, such as poisonous snakes,
spiders, and plants; weather; ticks and chiggers; stinging
insects; and bear behavior.

Beekeeping: Getting Started
The honeybee population nationwide has been devastated by
infestations of “mites” and numerous diseases; however, with
proper care, honeybees can be successfully maintained. Join

you will learn about honeybee colony characteristics, required
equipment, management techniques and practices, and honeybee
disease and parasitic mites. Time will be provided for bee yard

Mushroom Identification

Learn how to identify
those colorful mushrooms that come up after a rain. With the
guidance of instructor Diane Holsinger, you will learn how to
make spore prints and identify mushrooms in the field. Some
spring mushrooms will be out and we may find some morels. All
classes, except the first one, will be hands-on field classes.
Recommended field guide for the course is “Mushrooms of West

but have never driven a motorcycle or used a manual transmission
clutch; if you attempted a BRC but were overwhelmed......then
Jump Start is for you!
Jump Start provides three hours of instruction in a small class
setting to focus on initial riding skills (working the clutch,
starting/stopping, shifting gears). Motorcycles and helmets are
provided. Participants must provide protective clothing (see
BRC description). No tests, no completion cards, no pressure!

Learn the basics of motorcycle
operation and practice safe street-riding strategies, from
RiderCoaches who are certified by the Motorcycle Safety
Foundation (MSF). Successful completion of this hands-on course
waives the Virginia DMV knowledge exam (written test) and road
test. Virginia residents who pass the BRC receive a certificate
of completion that—when carried with their Virginia driver’s
license—allows them to operate a motorcycle for 30 days from
course completion date (You must apply at DMV within the 30 days
to add the Class M to your license to remain eligible to operate
a motorcycle). Many insurance companies offer discounts for
successful students.

all motorcycle courses.

must be at least 16 years old, eligible to receive a
motorcycle license.

Students under 19 must complete the
classroom portion of driver education before taking the BRC;
there is a waiting period prior to licensure. Visit

will make assignments for Saturday/Sunday range instruction
