Want to start a new business or expand an
existing one? Learn the skills needed to operate your
small business efficiently and effectively.
Courses may be taken in
any order. Complete four of these six basic courses and
receive a BRCC Certificate of Completion in the Essentials of
Starting a Small Business.

Beginning January 1, 2006, the dealer-operator of any new
independent motor vehicle dealership began requiring the
successfully completion of a course of study before they can
take the DMV dealer-operator qualification test. The Virginia
Community College System and the Virginia Independent Automobile
Dealer Association have teamed up to present a 2-day course at one of the many community colleges throughout the
state.
The path to Auto Dealer licensure begins with this
required two day course preparation for the DMV dealer-operator
qualification test. Existing dealerships can also benefit from
this valuable information.

Applying for Class A, B, or C licensure
with the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation?
Fulfill the eight hour education requirement with this class!
Learn the statutes and regulations governing contractors in
Virginia. Text included in course fee.
This class is now a pre-licensing education
requirement for prospective Virginia contractors as required by
statute and the upcoming emergency Board of Contractors
regulations. The eight hour course, recognized by the Department
of Professional and Occupational Regulation, meets the
requirements of those who must attend a remedial session. The
class presents essential information relating to the practice of
contracting within the Commonwealth. It is not examination
preparation although a student should be quite well prepared to
take Part 1 of the contractor examinations after successfully
completing this course. The course is for contractors who have
practiced in the profession for many years and are now seeking
to either upgrade an existing license or are entering the
contracting field from out of state. Course discussion will
include how to perform various tasks such as customer selection,
estimating, marketing, working with building inspectors,
residential contract, and obtaining signed change orders. The
two texts, Contactor’s Business Reference Manual, and Virginia
Contractor’s Law, are included in course fee.
Advanced Contractor Business Licensing Course
Need
to pass the Class A and Class B contractor licensing exams in
Virginia? This 30 hour course focuses on business and project
management and on the unique contracting requirements in
Virginia. Learn how to avoid business failure by learning good
management practices. Prerequisite: Basic Contractor Business
Licensing Course.
State Board of Contractors Tradesman Continuing Education
Electricians, plumbers, and mechanical
tradesman will be required in 2008 to attend three hours of
continuing education and gasfitters will be required to attend a
one hour session for license renewal.
