Managing people or projects involves a set of skills and
techniques often different from the skills and techniques in
regular work. Successful managers can influence people
whether they actually report to them or not and can also
influence the people they report to. Having the success
dependent on people who work for/with you underscores the
importance of managing effectively when you cannot do everything
yourself. The course introduces and/or refreshes these
techniques for effective managing.
- How to package what you want
- How to use metrics (measuring) to get results
- How to free your time and fully engage a team
- How to manage a project to prevent surprises
- How to get ideas accepted and started in different
environments
- How to give effective feedback that changes behavior
This course presents ideas and solutions for communicating at
work -- with your boss, with customers, with your peers and with
subordinates. The course suggests:
- How to present ideas effectively
- How to prepare and present an argument or a case
(including making a 'pitch' to a group)
- How to give helpful feedback
- How to conduct interviews -- for both written and spoken
exchanges.
This course covers essential information supervisors,
manager, project managers, and team leaders need to know to
successfully manage projects. This interactive course provides
opportunities to work on real-work situations while discussing:
- The rules of delegation
- Giving helpful feedback
- Working with difficult people
- Communicating clearly
- Top HR issues
- Coaching and getting the most from team
An overview of project feasibility
analysis and project development with concentration in
manufacturing including: Rate of Return Analysis, Budgeting,
Project Organization, Designing for Quality, Designing for
Function, Time Line Development, and Startup and Post-Project
Analysis. Realistic examples and discussions will re-enforce
the class material, which will be provided the first night of
class.
This course will provide an Introduction to process
improvement, team development, consensus building, and
problem-solving techniques.
This will be a capstone course to be taken following the
completion of all other courses in this program. The course
will use case studies to focus on realistic situations managers
encounter as they attempt to achieve organizational goals.
After completion of this non-credit
certificate, students may feel ready for more in-depth
coursework in one of these subject areas. For information
