Spend two hours trying out a desktop
computer—learn how to turn it on, what the mouse is and how to
use it, some basics on “all those wires” and what they connect.
Begin to overcome your fears about breaking the computer or
moving too slowly or not knowing where to start—we’ll show you.
Then, take the “How to Buy a Computer” class or decide if you’re
ready for an introductory class, such as Intro to Computers,
Keyboarding, or Intro for Seniors.
What’s RAM and how much of it do I need?
How about MgHrz? Cordless mouse, optical mouse, TrakBall?
Laptop or desktop? Bring these questions and others to these
two sessions—get information in the first session, go out, use
it, and bring back more questions the next week. Intended for
computers for home use.
Learn what a computer can do for you in this pleasantly
supervised, non-threatening environment. Through hands on
experience, you will learn basic computer terminology, how to
navigate in the Windows environment, file management, and the basics
of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and the Internet at a very
introductory level. A great place to start!
We’ll start with some basics on
setting up your browser to the home page and the look you want,
then look at the resources available to you as you ‘surf’,
including newspapers, libraries, health and travel information.
Questions from the first week will be answered during the second
session. Come and learn to make better use of your web time!

Please note the following computer courses should be taken
consecutively. Enroll early in Introduction to Computers Part I, II,
and III to reserve your space in each session.
Learn what a computer can do for you in this moderately paced,
non-threatening environment designed especially for seniors. Through
hands on experience, you will learn basic computer terminology, how
to navigate in the Windows environment, and create letters at a very
introductory level. A great place to start!
Take the next step of the Introduction to Computers specifically
tailored for seniors. Learn how to scan photos and insert them into
letters and newsletters, as well as how to send as an e-mail
attachment to family members. This course is taught at a very
moderate pace. Enjoy!
Take the final step and learn how to create greeting cards and
invitations using your scanned images. You will also learn how to
become an effective user of the fast-growing, fast-changing, and
sometimes chaotic World Wide Web.
After an introduction to Internet Explorer
and its settings, learn about security issues, different types
of pages and addresses. Then we’ll explore some websites
designed to provide information and support specifically for the
concerns you have. Even if you own a Mac, you can profit from
this class!
Begun, by request, as a Word for
Seniors class in the Spring
of 2006, this is an opportunity for you to learn to use
the computer for activities that interest you. We’ll start by
looking at Word and filing photos and sending email and branch
from there depending on your specific questions and ideas.
Everyone learns from one another and one person’s question leads
to another’s. Come join us for this fun class where you help to
set the program!
