YOUR FIRST YEAR IN COLLEGE
If you're like most freshmen, the first year of
college seems a little intimidating. Learning communities can help
make the transition from high school to college a little easier by providing a support
group of both students and faculty members. Learning communities
have shown to
help first-year students be academically successful. But, don't
take our word for it, see the benefits that
previous learning community members identified. |
BRCC Snapshot: Ellen Coon

What began as a way to meet other students grew into a network of social
and academic support for BRCC student Ellen Coon. A counselor suggested that
Ellen join the Transfer Learning
Community, and the rest, is history. “I absolutely loved it! I consider
it a GREAT introduction to college, especially for freshmen, because it
focused on bringing the students together as peers instead of just
individuals in an English class, or a Math class,” explained the 19-year-old
Churchville native. -
