YOUR FIRST YEAR IN COLLEGE

2007-08 Learning Community StudentsIf you're like most freshmen, the first year of college seems a little intimidating.  Learning communities can help make the transition from high school to college a little easier by providing a support group of both students and faculty members.  Learning communities have shown to help first-year students be academically successful.  But, don't take our word for it, see the benefits that previous learning community members identified.

BRCC Snapshot: Ellen Coon

Ellen Coon What began as a way to meet other students grew into a network of social and academic support for BRCC student Ellen Coon. A counselor suggested that Ellen join the Transfer Learning Community, and the rest, is history. “I absolutely loved it! I consider it a GREAT introduction to college, especially for freshmen, because it focused on bringing the students together as peers instead of just individuals in an English class, or a Math class,” explained the 19-year-old Churchville native.  - more
