College Preparedness Test (CPT)
for Reading and Writing
Unless exempt, the Reading and Writing Preparedness Test is required of students enrolling in a curriculum or in English classes. If you do not receive a sufficient score in the CPT, you will need to take developmental Writing/Reading courses before enrolling in college-level English courses.
The Reading and Writing Preparedness Test consists of two un-timed sections that cover reading comprehension and sentence skills.
- You may need to take one or both sections, depending on your SAT/ACT scores.
- Allow at least 2 hours to complete
- You will receive a printed report of your scores at the end of the test.
Retests
Retests are rarely allowed, and must be approved by a counselor. Retest fee is $15. You will need to provide written counselor approval and a receipt for fee payment when retesting.
Test Preparation
- Online test reviews and practice questions The ACT Test preparation is recommended as it gives sample questions and answers as well as an explanation of how the answers are derived.
