OfFIce of Disability Services
Disability Support Services is part of
Student
Services at Blue Ridge Community College. Its mission is to
provide students with disabilities the support services needed
to access college classes and events. Services are open to any
student with a disability who provides appropriate
documentation. The Disability Services Coordinator will assist
students by coordinating accommodations in order to meet the
needs of the student.
The accommodations students with disabilities receive are
based on the recommendations made by qualified evaluators. The
requested accommodations must relate directly to the disability
and the relationship must be documented in the reports. Each
student’s request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure
that individual needs are met. In order to ensure timely
delivery of services, students needing books/classroom materials
in alternate format or sign language interpreters should enroll
at least six weeks prior to the start of classes so that
accommodations can be planned and implemented. If classroom
accommodations are not requested in a reasonable amount of time
prior to the start of the class, the College may not be able to
provide the accommodation at the time that it is needed.
To ensure a smooth transition into college, read the
following links to determine what documentation is required.
Contact the Disability Services Coordinator for an appointment
