Career Advising: Adult workers or career changers

Changing your occupation or career is not the same as starting over. It means putting your current skills to new uses, and developing new skills. These resources help you identify learn more about yourself, the world of work, and the job search.

Who am I?

Re-evaluating your values, goals, skills, and interests are essential if you are changing your career path or changing jobs.  Career assessments are not tests, because there are no right or wrong answers.  Instead, they provide you with information on many prospective careers by matching your preferences, values, and interests.

Kuder is an online career assessment system for BRCC students only. To access instructions for using Kuder, go to MY BRCC. Use your username and password, go to Blackboard, BRCC Information, click on the link: Kuder Career Planning System Instructions. You may print out the form for future use.

The Career Key is an online career assessment available to the public.  The exercise can be completed in less than ten minutes, and you can bookmark the results page to return and explore more options. The occupations you identify as promising careers are linked to the Occupational Outlook Handbook where you can learn detailed, accurate information about each career. The website includes self-help modules on topics like choosing a college major, making high-quality decisions, and learning more about the world of work.

The Motivational Appraisal of Personal Potential is a web-based test you may take for free. The site provides an analysis sample to help you learn your personal career motivation priorities and discover your styles for communications, learning and leadership.

 

Where am I going?

After self-assessment, explore your options by gathering information about the careers and jobs that interest you the most.  Learn about the knowledge and skills you must have to enter these careers, along with information on the education and training opportunities to help you prepare for your chosen career.

    You can use this site frequently to stay up-to-date on the latest job search techniques such as networking, internet searches, resume and cover-letter writing, and interviewing techniques.
