ACADEMIC
ADVISING NOTES for IDLS TRANSFER
HEALTH
- HLT 110 (3 credits), Concepts of Personal
and Community Health, or HLT 116 (3 credits), Introduction to Personal
Wellness Concepts, will fulfill the JMU health requirement.
HISTORY
- The two semesters of U.S. History, HIS 121
and 122 (6 credits), will fulfill the GHIST 225 (4 credits) requirement at
JMU.
- History of World Civilization HIS 111, 112
(6 credits) will fulfill the GHIST 101 and 102 (6 credits ) requirement at
JMU.
- Courses may be taken out of sequence.
POLITICAL SCIENCE
- PLS 135, American National Politics
(3 credits) will fulfill the GPOSC 225 (4 credits)
requirement at JMU.
MATHEMATICS
- MTH 151, Liberal Arts Math, will
fulfill the MATH 108, Fundamentals of Mathematics II,
requirement at JMU
- MTH 157, Elementary Statistics, will
fulfill the MATH 207, Mathematical Problem Solving,
requirement at JMU
- Transfer students must take MATH 107,
Fundamentals of Mathematics I, once admitted to JMU (May
session or fall semester of junior year).

- Students must take 3 additional credits in GSCI
101 at JMU after transferring.
PRAXIS I
Students should take the Praxis I exam during
the first semester of their sophomore year at Blue Ridge Community College
or as soon as they have completed English 111 and Math 151.
All students must pass Praxis I prior to being admitted
to JMU under this agreement.
ACADEMIC NOTES
PARTICULARLY PERTINENT FOR JMU IDLS MAJORS

- Please note that all students preparing
to teach in Early, Elementary, and Middle School are required to major
in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies at James Madison University. Refer
to the JMU catalog for further details on this major. Students preparing
to teach Special Education are strongly encouraged to major in IDLS.
- Please note that the deadline for
transfer students to apply for the teacher education program is prior to
their first semester of
enrollment at James Madison University.
- There are additional requirements for admission to teacher education
programs at James Madison University. Furthermore,
JMU teacher education students may be required to complete a Master's
degree in addition to the bachelor's degree in IDLS. We
strongly suggest that you obtain a JMU catalog and read the IDLS and
education sections very carefully.
- Students are encouraged to meet with
education faculty at James Madison University prior to transfer.
