Preparing to Transfer to James Madison University:
Selected Majors
Preface
As a service to Blue Ridge Community College students
completing the BRCC Transfer degree (A.A.& S.) planning to
transfer to James Madison University, this advising guide has
been prepared. We have researched popular majors at JMU, and
present here our best advice regarding what courses at BRCC will
best prepare students for the given major. However, since
program requirements often change quickly, we strongly urge
students to research JMU's on-line catalog for any changes that
may have occurred since the printing of this guide. Although we
will do all we can to the ensure accuracy of this guide, BRCC
encourages students to assume full responsibility for
researching their chosen field of study. We strongly suggest
that students use this guide, along with other information
obtained directly from JMU publications and personnel, to
research and implement an appropriate academic plan. BRCC
academic advisors are available to assist you in this process.
All BRCC students who graduate with the College/University
Transfer A.A. & S. degree, and who choose to transfer to JMU,
will receive junior standing and will have their general
education requirements satisfied. Even with junior standing,
however, students may find it may take longer than two years of
full-time study in some majors to graduate from JMU.
Students who intend to apply to JMU without graduating should
note that gaining transfer admission without the associate's
degree is highly competitive. Students who wish to pursue this
option for transfer should use the Virginia Community
College/James Madison University Transfer Guide to follow the
general education requirements for JMU by taking equivalent
coursework at BRCC.
Students transferring to other four-year colleges and
universities may also find the guide useful, as well, but should
check the on-line information on their college of choice for
transfer and program information. |
