ACADEMIC ADVISING NOTES for HISTORY TRANSFER

History Options

Select from:

  • HIS 111-112
  • *HIS 121-122
(Note regarding the transferability of HIS-122 to James Madison University: JMU's VCCS 2000-2001 Transfer Guide states that both Blue Ridge Community College HIS 121 and 122 courses must be taken in order to receive equivalent credit for the JMU course GHIS225. Students will receive four credits for taking GHIS225 and two credits as electives. Therefore, students will not lose credits by taking both courses. However, students must take both courses to obtain the GHIS225 equivalent course credit. If a student takes only one of the two courses, then three credits will be transferred as elective credit, but history majors will need to enroll in and complete GHIS225 at JMU. We advise you to either take both HIS 121 and 122 at Blue Ridge Community College, or to wait until you get to JMU and take GHIS225 there.

Courses may be taken out of sequence.

Literature Options

Select from:

  • ENG 241-242
  • ENG 243-244
  • ENG 251-252

Approved Electives

The following is a list of suggestions that seem particularly appropriate for history majors. However, ANY approved electives may be taken.

  • ECO 201 or 202 or GEO 210, 221, or 222 3 (Economics or Geography)
  • HUM 201 or 202; HUM 260
  • Art 101 or 102 History and Appreciation of Art I-II 3

Electives may be selected from the list of approved courses for the Associate in Arts and Sciences (AA&S) degree. See the college catalog for this listing. Approved electives ar ealso listed on BRCC's "Green Sheet," available from your advisor or the Counseling Center.
