Advising Guide For Business Transfer
(For Students Pursuing Business Majors (B.B.A.) at James Madison
University: Majors: Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Economics,
Finance, Hospitality and Tourism Management, International Business,
Management and Marketing
Transfer into the JMU College of Business
New Policy, Effective April 1, 2009
Students who have been accepted by JMU with all general
education requirements waived (in most cases, this will be
graduating students from the College Transfer program) AND who
have completed the following courses with a grade of B- or
higher will be admitted to the College of Business and allowed
to enroll in COB 300 and junior level courses.
Criteria:
- Completion of COB 191 (BUS 221), COB 202 (BUS 270), COB
204 (ITE 120), COB 218 (BUS 241), COB 241-242 (ACC 211-212),
COB 291*, MATH 205 (MTH 270), ECON 201-GECON 200 (ECO
201-202) with a grade of B- or higher
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Completion of at least 60 credits (junior standing)
- JMU waiver of all general education requirements (in
most cases, AA&S degree completers)
This policy is effective April 1, 2009 and applies to any
transfer student entering JMU beginning January 1, 2010.

Admission to Business Majors at James Madison
University is competitive. Please refer to the JMU Catalog for specific
requirements for admission to the business major you are interested in. The
Guaranteed Admission Agreement does not guarantee admission to any
particular JMU major.

Students transferring with a transferable
associate’s degree and who have completed the majority of the courses listed
above may want to consider transferring in the summer and completing the
remaining core courses. Then they will be eligible to apply to the major and
begin the upper-level coursework in the fall.
