Wireless Access Project

Wireless Access Project
The Wireless Access project at Blue Ridge is an initiative to promote wireless laptop access for student use.

Usage

Wireless access is restricted to currently enrolled BRCC students, faculty and staff. Wireless access is for academic use only, and is governed by the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Information Technology Student/Patron Acceptable Use Agreement http://www.vccs.edu/its/standards/stuagr.htm

Wireless Access Points

The areas shaded in orange are wireless access points.  Both floors of the Houff Student Center are included with the exception of the Learning Assistance Center offices.

Student Laptops

BRCC Laptops

Twelve laptops configured for wireless use at BRCC are available for checkout by current students in F112.   See Laptop Checkout for more information.

Personal Laptops

If you wish to access the wireless network with your own laptop, you must install software (Cisco Systems VPN Client) that has been specially configured for use at BRCC. Current students may check out a CD-ROM containing the software from the student help desk in the F112 lab, as well as installation instructions.

Accessing BRCC Wireless Network

  1. Open the Cisco Systems VPN Client: Start> Programs>Cisco Systems VPN Client>VPN Client” (or use a desktop shortcut if one is available.)
  2. Make sure the BRCC Wireless Network line is selected and click “Connect.”
  3. Enter your student login ID, which is the same as the one you use for Blackboard and student email. In the example below, John Smith’s login ID is jsmith1234. Enter your birth date in MMDDYY format as your password. Note: this system uses your birth date even if you have changed your password for Blackboard and student email.
  4. If your login is successful, you will see the following dialog box. Click "OK".  If you can’t login, please contact the student helpdesk in room F112.
