How and When to Apply

The best time for you to apply for financial aid is during January or February preceding the academic year that you plan to attend. For example; if you will be attending BRCC for the 2008 fall semester you will want to apply by March 15, 2008 if at all possible. March 15th is BRCC’s recommended FAFSA application filing date for awarding aid. You may apply for financial aid by completing and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the appropriate aid year. You may submit a FAFSA two ways:

FAFSA on the Web

FAFSA on the Web is a free U.S. Department of Education web site where you can complete a FAFSA online and submit it via the Internet. You can use FAFSA on the Web on a personal computer (PC) or a Macintosh that is equipped with a supported browser. The address is www.fafsa.ed.gov. Processing will take one to two weeks.

Applying by mail

If you would like to apply by mailing a paper FAFSA, you may obtain an application from the federal processing center at 1-800-4FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). You may also print out and mail a PDF FAFSA by logging onto www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov. You will have the option of obtaining the PDF FAFSA in either black and white or in color and in either English or Spanish. If you choose this option, print it out, complete the form, and mail to the federal processing center. Processing will take approximately three to four weeks.

Recommended FAFSA Application Filing Date

Students and parents are encouraged to complete all application forms by the College's recommended FASFA filing date to be fully considered for all federal, state, and institutional financial aid. Late applications are accepted after the priority filing date but funding is not guaranteed. Likewise, students and parents who experience a change in their financial situation and then wish to apply for financial aid after the priority date may still do so. Institutional assistance will be awarded based on availability of funds. All other documents requested by the office should also be submitted no later than May 1 to ensure timely notification of the student's eligibility for financial aid.
