As a child I enjoyed hand embroidery and small sewing projects. I began making most of my clothes and as the closets began to overflow, I realized that I would need to work on more time consuming projects. I started quilting in 1995 using the foundation paper-pieced method and worked up to traditional patchwork pieced patterns. I enjoy machine piecing, hand appliqué and using my embroidery machine to decorate the quilt blocks.

Handmade Quilt

  • Surprise Wedding Gift by Ms. Denton
  • Donated By: Debbie Glenn

Waiting for You

  • Quilted By: Ruth Blankenship

I started quilting about a year before I retired from Blue Ridge Community College. I like to use bright fabrics for lots of color. My favorite patterns are any kind of stars. This quilt was started when my daughter and her husband decided to adopt a child from China. It gave me a way of thinking about her and loving her while we waited. That is why I call this quilt “Waiting for You”. She is my star in this quilt.

Cathedral Window Quilt

  • by Mervil Hobson, Grandmother of Ann, Circa 1980
  • Donated By: Ann Leatherwood

Turning Tide

  • Quilted By: Pamela Monger

I began quilting in 1998. My first quilt was an original design pieced with scraps from Keepsake Quilting. I was lucky enough to spend two summers working in Laconia, NH, so took every opportunity to raid their 25 cent scrap basket. Challenging patterns stretch my sewing skills and I love designing my own pieces. I have an online quilt business, http://piecesofthevalley.net/ , and I hope to sell my own patterns in the future.

  • Designed By: Cheryl Rosberg
  • Machine Quilted By: Gail Auen

A friend introduced me to the art of quilting fifteen years ago. After learning the basic of quilting, I participated in a number of local classes, and worked at a local quilt store for five years. Quilting has provided me with an outlet for creativity and relaxation. It is very satisfying to see fabric transformed into something that is beautiful, as well as serviceable.
