Artist Statement
Nature – Order is a series in photography, video, and folded paper sculptures that coalesces my interests in science, math, philosophy and art. The work begins with still digital photos of nature abstractions that capture an array of surfaces and designs. Selected for the contrasts they offer, such as crumbling leaves/ solid rock or crashing waves/ delicate flowers, the images are layered along with geometric constructions that influence the final structure of the digital montage or are literally folded into geometric constructions.
This series is in homage to Kazimir Malevich who explored the non-objective world at the beginning of the 20th Century; in his work a simple square was simultaneously mathematical, mystical and revolutionary.
