About the Artist
Barbara B. Quackenbush is a professional artist residing in Verona, Virginia. She received a BFA from Richmond Professional Institute — now VCU. In her own words, she says “Painting is exciting — the rush of colors, textures and values can create changing expressions that tell of life’s adventures, successes and voids. Wonder and adventure are the dashes behind the paint brush.”
Barbara begins her paintings by building layers, incorporating color and adding textural effects on pre- painted paper. As each painting evolves, found objects and treasures are added to create a cohesive and collective design.
Working from her home and studio in the Shenandoah Valley, Barbara bnngs a sense of whimsy to her vivid paintings. With rich jewel-tone colors, a loaded brush and her good natured humor, she is able to create imaginative collages that evoke mystery around the landscapes of our lives.
Barbara has won awards and exhibited locally and nationally. Among her awards, she has won the Pen Women National Award and Pen Women Award in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She exhbits frequently in the gallery of Art By the Sea, Ft. Lauderdale; Gold Coast Watercolor Association, Ft Lauderdale; Shenandoah Valley Arts Association, Virginia; and in Bath County, Virginia.
Barbara is an active member of Beverley Street School in Staunton, Shenandoah Valley Art Center in Waynesboro, Potomac Valley Watercolor Association in Northern Virginia, Gold Coast Watercolor Association in Florida, andArt by The Sea Association in Florida.
Her works can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the U. S. Additional information may be found on her website: www.barbbq.net
