Technical Requirements

Your personal computer should meet the following minimum technical requirements to use BRCC's online resources:

  • Windows 2000, XP, or Vista; MacOS X 10.2 - 10.4
  • Internet connectivity
  • A web browser with JavaScript and cookies enabled. 
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or 7
    • Netscape 7.1 or 8.0
    • Firefox 1.5 or 2.0
    • Safari 1.2 or 2
  • Microsoft Word or another word processing application capable of saving files in Rich Text Format
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader

Some courses may also require:

  • CD or DVD drives
  • Other software and hardware designated by the instructor (look for class notes associated with the course listing)

Now that your computer is ready, you can access and learn more about the online programs you will be using.

  • Computer problems?  We've got that covered too.  Computers labs are available for student use at the Weyers Cave Campus (Rooms F112, F114, and the Houff Library) as well as the Harrisonburg and Augusta Centers.   Laptops may also be checked out in F112.  For more information, see Computing @ BRCC > Hardware & Software.   • BRCC provides free Symantec antivirus software to students.  You will find a link to download the software from the BRCC section of Blackboard.  More on Blackboard in a later section...
