Clinical Medical Assistant Training Program (140 Classroom Hours, plus 160-hour Clinical Externship)

Intended for individuals who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging, and rewarding career in healthcare, this program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy, and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology, including proper lead placements, professional workplace behavior, and ethics and legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes classroom lecture, hands-on labs, and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider. To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140-hour program, and meet all requirements, including a background check and drug screening.

Note:  Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

Help! I’ve Fallen (Adult Care Falls Prevention and Restraint Use) 

Designed primarily for assisted living personnel, this introductory workshop focuses on the consequences of falls and restraint use with the elderly. Using videos and small group work, this interactive training reviews basic regulatory requirements, as well as individualized risk assessment, culture change, and fall prevention plan components. Learn the cost in human suffering and financial losses that result from fall injuries. You’ll also explore current thinking and research in the use of restraints with the elderly with an emphasis on alternative interventions and avoidance. Presented in partnership with the Virginia Department of Social Services-Valley Licensing Office.

Massage Therapist Certification   

Massage Therapists are employed in healthcare, wellness, spa settings, as well as private practice, assisting with wellness, stress management, injury rehabilitation and health and fitness. This fast-track Massage Therapy Certification Training Program combines classroom instruction (including classroom practice giving/receiving massage) with a 60-hour on-site supervised student clinic to provide a comprehensive learning experience totaling 636 hours. Program fee includes textbooks, program materials, internship (clinic) experience, certificate of completion, and state certification preparation.
