Driver Education Certification Training

(Note: These Classes are for Driver Education Instructors Only.)

EDU 114: Driver Task Analysis (3 CR)

This credit class introduces the “driver task” as related to the highway transportation system and factors that influence performance ability. Prepares students so they may be eligible to take certification exams for driving school instructors in both public and private schools. 3 credits: Lecture, 30 hours. Laboratory (online), 14 hours. This is a hybrid class and may not meet on all dates. Prerequisite: Must be eligible for ENG 03 and 05 or ESL 13.

Note: EDU 114 classes meet on selected Mondays and Thursdays for a total of 30 hours. The 14 hours of online coursework is to be done outside class over the five weeks.

EDU 214: Instructional Principles of Driver Education (3 CR)

Analyzes rules and regulations that govern the conduct of Driver Education programs with special emphasis on organization and administration. Includes applications for the classroom, driving range and on the street. Prepares students so they may be eligible to take the state certification exam in driver education. 3 credits. Lecture, 30 hours. Laboratory, 14 hours (Behind-the-Wheel observation). Prerequisite: EDU 114.
           
Meets: Mondays & Thursdays, May 15-Jun 9 (meeting times will be finalized at the first EDU 114 class; Harrisonburg High School

Note: EDU 214 classes meet on Mondays and Thursdays, as well as one Saturday, for a total of 30 hours. The remaining 14 hours of class time is dedicated to observing Behind the Wheel instructors/students at public or private schools.
