Seminars Offer Practical Tips and Insights
Bridging Cultures and Conflict
Culture and conflict add complexity to an already busy workplace filled with pressing tasks. Understanding culture and the key role it plays in conflict is the start of creating an intercultural workplace where conflict is addressed in constructive ways and culture becomes less of a barrier and more of an asset in relationships and teams. We'll look at concepts, cases, and practical ways to address conflict and build cultural capacity. Presenter Gloria Rhodes is Associate Professor of peacebuilding and conflict studies at Eastern Mennonite University where she chairs the department of Applied Social Sciences and coordinates the Peacebuilding and Development undergraduate major. She teaches courses in conflict analysis, mediation, group dynamics and facilitation, and peacebuilding theory and practice; and has led cross cultural study seminars to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Russia, and South Korea.
Leadership and Influence without Authority
The leadership skill to influence in the absence of objective status, rank or authority is a useful one to have, especially in the absence of objective rank, status or authority. Virginia Cutchin facilitates this interactive and enlightening seminar. Learn to tap into your personal stores of confidence and competence, and define your personal leadership as a source of power from which to positively influence those around you. Director of Transition Success Consulting, Virginia Cutchin is a certified personal leadership and development coach with more than 20 years’ experience as an intercultural trainer/consultant.
Email, texting, Facebook, co-workers chatting us up - and let's not forget the drama! Your work day is filled with interruptions; learn how to identify the problem interruptions and how to manage them better so you can stay on task. In addition to her 20+ years in higher education, presenter Toni Whitfield has extensive experience in corporate training and development. She is a Full Professor in Communication Studies at James Madison University, teaching organizational communication, training/consulting, and public speaking.
Work More Efficiently and Collaboratively with Google Drive
Google Drive’s cloud storage allows you to access your files from anywhere you have Internet access. Learn how to upload existing files; and create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations right within Google. Using Google Drive, you can share documents for others to view, edit, and comment - allowing you to work more collaboratively. Dorothy Connelly is an Associate Professor of Information Systems Technology and Distance Learning Coordinator for Blue Ridge Community College. She teaches a variety of IT courses: in-person, online and hybrid.
