Summer Youth Program
(rising grades K-12)
Q: How much do Learning Can Be Fun classes cost?
A: Courses are $129 unless otherwise noted.
Q: Are scholarships available for LCBF classes?
A: Some scholarships are available, based on financial need; contact Continuing Education at (540)453-2215.
Q: Do I need to pre-register my child, or can I do that the first day of classes?
A: We strongly recommend registering early; classes fill quickly, and instructors may not have enough supplies for students who sign up at the last minute.
Q: What do you mean by “rising grade”?
A: That is the grade level your child will enter this fall.
Q: My child is one year younger/older than the listed grades for the class, can he/she still attend?
A: The decision to let a child participate who is younger or older than the listed grade levels is contingent upon permission from both the program coordinator and the class instructor.
Q: If my child cannot attend his/her class, can I get a refund?
A: Certainly…as long as you withdraw no later than one week before the first class; no refunds are issued after that time.
Q: Where will I drop off my child for class?
A: Parents and students report to Armstrong Hall for registration/check-in on Monday. On subsequent days, escort your child directly to his/her classroom. [For classes that meet off-campus, parents and students should go directly to the class site on Monday and check in with the BRCC staff member there.] Please note: we must have a signed authorization form (sent to you upon registration) on file before your child is allowed to attend class.
Q: Where do I go to pick up my child at the end of class?
A: Go to your child’s classroom. With advance written parental permission, older children may leave the classroom and meet parents outside.
Q: What if I’m running late and won’t be able to pick up my child on time?
A: Parents are expected to make arrangements to pick up their child on time following each class. If an emergency keeps you from reaching BRCC on time, please call Continuing Education at (540)453-2215 to alert a staff member.
Q: Are snacks provided?
A: McKee Foods generously provides snacks on Monday for classes that meet on campus; children may bring snacks from home or buy them in the cafeteria the rest of the week. Please note that children enrolled in day-long classes that meet/travel off-campus need to bring a snack, packed lunch and drink each day.
Q: My child is taking one class in the morning and another in the afternoon – is lunch provided and will he/she be supervised between classes?
A: The program does not provide lunch, and regulations prohibit BRCC from providing official supervision during the meal break. Children are to stay in the cafeteria during the lunch hour. Children in rising grades K-5 may register for a Storytime class that meets from noon to 1 p.m. Storytime students bring a bag lunch (with drink), and hear a different story each day, plus take part in a fun art activity. Each Storytime participant will be escorted by LCBF staff to the Storytime classroom from his/her morning class, and to his/her afternoon session.
