Explore the four seasons using a variety of mediums including pencil, crayons, watercolor, collage, and acrylic paint.  Sketch books will be provided during a nature walk on the BRCC campus and will also be used to complete finished work for your art show on Friday!

Acting Development (rising grades 4-6) 

Already love acting or have always wanted to learn how to act? Then build a foundation of acting skills and knowledge in this exciting class! While rehearsing a play for Friday, spend some time learning and practicing the basic skills of acting and the elements of script study and drama, as well as stage directions. Participate in exercises and discussions about how the psyche, mind, and body are very important in creative character development. Acting fundamentals are explored through fun activities created by professionals. You will also work together to play acting games designed just for this class, like “Stage Pictionary” and “Snap Shot Shoot Out”! And, best of all, you will perform an exciting play for family and friends on Friday!

Acting Intensive (rising grades 6-9)

This is the class for students serious about acting on stage and learning the techniques necessary to succeed in the theatre world, whether in school or in acting careers. In this one-week, all-day experience, you will explore team building, problem solving, unique character development, voice & speech techniques, trust building, and creativity (thinking fast on your feet!) through a variety of fun games created especially for this class, workshop exercises, and group activities. Experiment with characterization and emotion as we dive into intense scene study. New this summer, study the groundbreaking Sanford Meisner acting technique from his famous book on acting. You will face a variety of challenges, as well as activities that help the class laugh and bond, while growing into stronger stage performers. You will also be rehearsing dramatic and comedic scenes from an original play written especially for this class, performed on Friday for family and friends.

Candy Land Clay Workshop (rising grades 1-3)

Lollipops, cupcakes, and cookies will dazzle the eyes when you learn to create these goodies using the medium of Model Magic.  Sketch books will be provided to illustrate confections, and the process of hand modeling will begin an exciting culinary experience!  All goodies will be painted and presented on Friday’s Yum Yum Art Show.

Digital Photography (rising grades 7-9)

Do you love taking pictures?  Would you like to learn some techniques that will make your photographs even better?  This class will review the history of photography and the evolution of the camera.  You will also learn about photo composition and editing.  You will become familiar with basic photographic terms and be able to apply new techniques to your own photography.  Please bring your digital camera to class.  By the end of the week, you will have created your own portfolio!

Drawing with Color (rising grades 5-8) NEW

Explore the possibilities of drawing with color to create expressive pictures and use different mediums of color to develop the basic foundations of drawing.  Composition, value, and perspective are a few of the principals of art examined.  The psychology of color will be discussed, along with references to many great artists who have used color to enhance their art.  Sketch books will be provided to hone drawing skills and to record notes.  All are invited to the group art show on Friday.

Did you know that anyone can learn to draw?  In this workshop, you will develop skills through a series of exercises that will increase your visual awareness. A variety of mediums will be used including pencil, charcoal, India ink, and markers in order to expand the drawing experience.  Sketch books will be provided for notation and sketches.  You will present your finished art work in an art show on Friday.

Fun with Clay! (rising grades 4-6)

This hands-on class will have you creating hand-built animals, buildings, pottery, or other sculptures using coil, slab, and pinch methods.  You will also have an opportunity to try making something on the potters' wheel!
There is a separate class period scheduled for glazing pieces on Thursday, July 23, from 9 am - Noon.  You can pick up your finished work on Friday, July 31.

Let’s Put on a Play! (rising grades 2-4) NEW NEW

Play fun games that will teach you how to stand and move on a stage, how to talk on a stage, and how to .... put on a play!  You will also be in a real play and perform it for your parents on Friday! In learning all about the play, you will decorate the stage area and make any props or costumes we may need.  But the main purpose for this class is how to feel comfortable being on a stage and acting.

Make Your Own Books! (rising grades 5-8) NEW

In a fun and creative environment, explore how to bind different kinds of books.  You will learn how to make accordion folded books, which will have pockets, and you will be able to spend some time making things to put in them. You will also make a tunnel book, and even a house sculpture with a book hidden in the roof! The house book will be sewn together with a simple pamphlet stitch. These tunnel and house books will be complete pieces of art themselves. In addition, you will make one or two books with blank pages that you can fill at home.

Character makeup plays an important role in theatre and helps breathe life into a play. In this interactive course you will explore stage makeup techniques and hair styling. Through hands-on work, you will learn techniques to create character, animal, age, fantasy, and special effects designs, including period hair styles and techniques.

Master Class Painting Workshop (rising grades 5-8) NEW

Painting a study is a process used by many art students to understand a great master's technique and art style.  Begin by selecting a famous image and learn the foundation of recreating a masterpiece. All paintings begin with a good drawing and an understanding of the dynamics of composition.  Using acrylic paint, learn how to mix and explore the warmth and coolness of colors. Sketch books, canvas, and paint will be provided. Show off your talents in the Master Class Art Show on Friday.

Paint, Draw, and Be Merry (rising grades 1-3)  

Experience the basics of painting and drawing through the media of paint, charcoal, pencil and collage. Using sketchbooks provided, stretch your imagination through exercises in creative thinking. During a mural project, learn to work together and share your creative ideas.  You will then select your best work and prepare it for an art exhibit on Friday.  So put on your beret, pick up a brush, and paint with us!

Pottery (rising grades 7-10)

Explore the artistry of making pottery on the potter’s wheel or by hand. Learn how to throw cups, bowls, and other shapes on the potter’s wheel. Then, create hand built pots using coil-building and slab-building techniques. Decorate your creations with wild textures and colors. No prior ceramics experience is necessary.  Clay is a fun and challenging medium and the projects are limited only by your imagination.  There is a separate class period scheduled for glazing pieces on Thursday, July 23, from 9am-Noon.  You can pick up your finished work on Friday, July 31.

Stage Combat (rising grades 4-6)

If you love watching edge-of-your-seat action scenes on stage, this class will get you out of your seat and into performing them. You will learn secret techniques of theatre professionals and stunt doubles. Convince your audience that you’re really engaging in combat. This class involves aerobic exercise, some sparring and dance techniques, as well as fast-paced action and recovery. This year will involve live stunts from a brand new stunts-for-stage book! Clothes and shoes you can move in easily are required. We will rehearse stage combat routines to perform for family and friends on Friday, including a full-class choreographed fight scene.
