Acting Development (rising grades 4-6) NEW

If you already love acting or have always wanted to learn how to act, then you will want to build a foundation of acting skill and knowledge in this exciting class! You will spend some time getting to learn and practice the basic skills of acting, the elements of script study and drama, as well as directions on the stage (where is “stage right”? “upstage left”? etc.). You will participate in exercises and discussions about how the five senses (sight, smell, taste, feel, and sound), the mind, and the whole body are very important in character development. You will learn the fundamentals of the acting method with fun activities and techniques created by professionals. You will also have lots of opportunities to join in playing acting games, many of which were originally designed just for this class! And, best of all, you will rehearse a short play which you will perform for your family and friends on Friday!

Acting Intensive (rising grades 6-9) NEW

If you love acting and performing on stage with exciting characters, then this is the class for you! In this all-day experience, you will explore team building, problem solving, unique character development, voice & speech techniques, trust building, and creativity (thinking fast on your feet!) through a variety of fun games, workshop exercises and group activities. You will have the opportunity to experiment with characterization and emotion as we dive into intense scene study. You will have a variety of challenges to meet as well as activities to help you laugh and bond as we collectively help each other grow into stronger stage performers. You will also be rehearsing dramatic and comedic scenes written especially for you, with the goal being a performance for parents, family, and friends on Friday!

Auditioning Workshop (rising grades 4-6) NEW

If you wish to gain confidence when auditioning for a play, musical, film, movie, or commercial, as well as gain the skills and techniques casting directors are looking for, then this workshop is for you. While using a myriad of exciting strategies which many professionals in these industries highly recommend, you will actively engage in voice, speech, stage presence, memorization, characterization and scene study activities to prepare you to walk into an audition confidently! In addition, you will be learning valuable techniques necessary for public speaking. You will perform mock auditions during every class in front of your peers, which includes a final grand finale audition in front of parents, family, and friends on Friday!

Candy Land Clay Workshop (rising grades 1-3) NEW

Lollipops, cupcakes, and cookies will dazzle the eyes when you learn to create these goodies using the medium of Model Magic. Sketch books will be provided to illustrate confections, and the process of hand modeling will begin an exciting culinary experience! All goodies will be painted and presented on Friday’s Yum Yum Art Show.

Creating a Musical (rising grades 1-3)

Join us as we create a musical, using stories, music, costumes, and art made completely by you! Together we will let music inspire us to read, write, move, talk, laugh, sing, play, pretend, dance, design...the list goes on! The week will end in a one-time performance of this original musical masterpiece for your friends and parents!

Drawing Workshop (rising grades 5-8) NEW

Did you know that anyone can learn to draw? In this exciting workshop, you will have a great time developing skills through a series of exercises that will increase your visual awareness. A variety of mediums will be used including pencil, charcoal, India ink, and markers in order to expand the drawing experience. Sketch books will be provided for notation and sketches. You will present your finished art work in an art show on Friday that everyone is welcome to attend.

Elements of Songwriting (rising grades 7-12)

Have you ever written a poem that sounded like it could use some music? Or maybe you have played the most amazing original musical idea, but have no words to put with it. Even if you’ve written songs from start to finish, this class will offer something for you. This course is designed to introduce the elements of songwriting, including form, style, and working with musical and poetic aspects of a song. Come stretch your creative side! You only need an open mind and a creative spirit, but experience playing guitar or piano is a plus.

Four Seasons of Art (rising grades 1-3) NEW

You will explore the four seasons using a variety of mediums including pencil, crayons, watercolor, collage, and acrylic paint. Sketch books will be provided and used during a nature walk on the BRCC campus and will also be used to complete finished work for the our art show on Friday!

Fun With Clay! (rising grades 4-6) NEW

You will make a lot of fun stuff in this class, and the best part is that you get to keep it! From simple birdhouses and birdfeeders to slab built vessels with big-mouth animal heads, you will discover the joys of working in clay! You will also make trivets and buttons with stamps, as well as some things your mother will love as a gift! And finally, there will be a “wild card” day where you can try your hand at throwing on the wheel. Lots of fun and creativity await you in this exciting class! There is a separate class period scheduled for glazing pieces on Thursday, July 18, from 9 am - Noon. You can pick up your finished work on Friday, July 26.

Group Improvisation (rising grades 4-6) NEW

Join us on an exciting adventure! You will learn how to “act on the spot” on stage, or “improvisation”, building comedy skills, learning how to react quickly, and overcoming stage fright in a teamwork setting. You will work together in a variety of extremely fun drama improvisation games and activities, such as “Movie Shoot”, “Spy Game”, and “Super-Villain Academy”, to further growth in many important acting skills. Through laughter, you will bond with your classmates, creating many hilarious memories, as well as playing games that present challenges you will have to work together to overcome. After a week of comical group fun, you will perform some of your favorite group games for parents, family, and friends on Friday!

Bring your guitar and join us as we experience the world through six strings! Whether you’ve never played or have been playing for a while, you will learn techniques of playing and practicing in a variety of styles. The focus of the course will be both on learning more about playing, as well as learning more about the history of the instrument, the many styles of music played with it, and a lot of musical interaction! Instruments + Music = Art! (rising grades 1-3)

What is a musical instrument? What do you really need in order to make music? A piano? Some spoons? Cups? Beads? Garbage cans? Maybe all it takes is a little imagination! Come join us while we explore music through our voices, natural rhythms, body percussion, and invent and play non-traditional musical instruments using every-day objects. In the same way that every-day objects will be inspiring us to make music, music will also inspire us to make beautiful "fine art" (whether through paint, drawing, movement, dance, or theatre)! At the end of the week, friends and parents are invited to view an art gallery full of our artistic and musical instrument creations, then witness a one-of-a-kind performance we will certainly all remember!

Beautiful art can be created from materials and images gathered in nature. Using a variety of media, you will create amazing works of art including a landscape diorama, a lenticular summer/winter painting, a natural sculpture inspired by the works of Andy Goldsworthy, a pressed flower frame, cyanotype sun prints, a watercolor rain painting using salt, and more!

Paint, Draw, and Be Merry (rising grades 1-3)

You will experience the basics of painting and drawing through the media of paint, charcoal, pencil and collage. Sketchbooks will be provided, and exercises in creative thinking will stretch your imagination. Included is a mural project in which you will learn to work together and share your creative ideas. You will then select your best work and be oriented in the method of matting in preparation for an art exhibit. So put on your beret, pick up a brush, and paint with us!

You always hear that you aren’t supposed to play with your food. Well, in this fun class that is exactly what we will be doing! We’ll make real, no-bake food that we can enjoy eating, and we’ll also make play food from clay, papier mache, still-life paintings and much, much more!

Pottery (rising grades 7-9)

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a pot on the potter’s wheel or by hand? Learn how to throw cups, bowls and other shapes on the potter’s wheel and create hand built pots using coil-building and slab-building techniques. Decorate your creations with wild textures and colors. Clay is a fun and challenging medium and the projects are limited only by your imagination. No prior ceramics experience is necessary. There is a separate class period scheduled for glazing pieces on Thursday, June 27, from 9am-Noon. You can pick up your finished work on Friday, July 5.

Stage Combat (rising grades 5-8) NEW

If you love to watch exciting, edge-of-your-seat action scenes on stage and wish you knew how to perform them yourself, then this class is for you! In this five-day class, you will have the chance to learn secret techniques created by theatre professionals and stunt doubles to convince your audience that you’re really engaging in combat while all the time you are never actually getting hurt but absolutely loving it! This class involves aerobic exercise, some sparring and dance techniques, as well as fast-paced action and recovery. Exercise, gym clothes, or clothes and shoes you can easily move in will be required. We will rehearse stage combat routines to perform for parents, family, and friends on Friday.

Wheel Thrown Pottery: Form Follows Function (rising grades 9-12)

In this class, you will learn the basic steps of throwing on the wheel, which will consist of centering, making the shape, trimming, and making different kinds of handles. You will also learn the basics of textures and ways to make different marks, as well as the glazing process and even be able to use the glazes. You will put all this together to make a couple of bowls, mugs or cups to take home! There is a separate class period scheduled for glazing pieces on Thursday, June 27, from 1-4 pm. You can pick up your finished work on Friday, July 5.
