Virus Protection at BRCC
All computers at BRCC have antivirus programs installed and
are updated each day with the latest definitions.
Viruses, Worms, and Trojans
If your home computer is not running properly or displays
unusual symptoms, you may have a
virus, worm, or trojan. It is imperative that you
purchase an antivirus program and keep it up to date as new
strains of viruses are always appearing.
Free Symantec Antivirus Software for BRCC Students
The Virginia Community College System provides free Symantec
Antivirus software to students. You will find a
module with a link to download the software within the
Blackboard Course Management System.
If you need assistance with accessing and downloading the
software, please contact the student helpdesk.
Preventing Viruses
- Do not open any email attachments unless you are
expecting to receive them
- Keep your operating system patched and up-to-date
- Set your antivirus software to scan in the background
whenever your computer is on.
- Do a complete scan of your system on a regular basis.
