Usage Guidelines for Administrative Desktops
The College provides desktop computers for use by faculty,
staff, and administrators for College related activities. The
desktops are configured with a standard set of office automation
tools for all users. Users should be familiar with the following
guidelines related to their desktop computer:
- The desktop computer's local disk drive is used to store
the computer's operating system, application programs, and
temporary work files. Users should not store any application
files such as documents, spreadsheets, etc. on their local
disk drive. These files should be stored on the server using
a network drive so that the files are regularly backed up on
tape.
- Users should not disable the virus scanning software
installed on their computer.
- Users should scan files given to them by other users for
possible virus infections or malicious code before using the
files in their computer.
- Users should not share their password with others.
- Users should be aware of and understand the
VCCS Information Technology
Employee Ethic Agreement.
- Users are responsible for
supporting and documenting the software that they install on
their desktop computer.
